Originally from Detroit, Truly A. Bennett is a Dancer, Choreographer, Musician, and Educator. She has taught workshops and set choreography at various institutions throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Japan, and Costa Rica. Bennett received her BFA in Dance Education from East Carolina University and her MFA in Dance from Hollins University. She has also completed the post-graduate professional development program at ICONS Choreographic Institute at the Dance Loft, and has obtained a professional diploma certification for her expertise in the field of choreography. Bennett is currently pursuing her PhD through the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts.
Bennett explores movement choices through a blend of Modern dance, performance art, and improvisational techniques. In her newest work, [de]Spite It All, Bennett explores the themes of dealing with societal pressure and labels, how those labels impact our perception of self, and how the decision to fight against the status quo can lead to a greater level of self awareness and acceptance.
