Mouse in House
Jan 11, 12, 18 – 2 pm/Theatre on the Run, 3700 S Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington VAThe Mouse of Amherst, performances for children, adapted from the book by Elizabeth Spires about an unlikely friendship between a lively mouse and reclusive 19th-century poet Emily Dickinson, with video backdrop animation by Bryan Leister. The mouse’s life changes forever when a gust of wind blows one of Emily’s poems her way. Moved by Emily’s evocative words that capture her own feelings, the mouse becomes determined to be a poet herself. Young audience members learn that everyone can write about their feelings and that even a common mouse is capable of creating beautiful poetry.

The Trickster, a multidisciplinary work in collaboration with percussionist Tom Teasley. Beyond the Painted Desert, as the land forms wide, empty valleys interspersed by low, scrub-covered mesas, hundreds of petroglyphs are etched into weathered surfaces of sandstone. The color and climate of the landscape inspires a fascinating exploration of the American Southwest.
Tom Teasley, described in the Washington Post as “a percussionist in the widest and most exuberant sense of the word,” maintains a unique career as a solo percussionist, composer and collaborator. A 2010 and 2011 Helen Hayes Theater Award recipient for outstanding sound design, Tom tours frequently throughout the world performing and presenting clinics for the instrument companies he endorses including Yamaha, Vic Firth, Sabian, Remo, Latin Percussion and others. A three-time recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes grant for performances in the Middle East, Tom collaborated with indigenous musicians and gave historic performances in Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the West Bank and Jerusalem.
