A day long festival
Dance Sampler celebrates the great variety of dance that the DC community offers, all in a fun filled day of unique classes and a fabulous showcase of distinctive dance artists. Whether you're a beginner, a pro, or if you just enjoy watching dance on stage, Dance Sampler has something for you. Classes are held throughout the day, for all ages and levels of experience, and are led by the evening's featured choreographers. The festival, presented by Jane Franklin Dance, takes places at Gunston Theater One, 2700 South Lang Street, Arlington, Virginia on December 2, 2006.

10:00 Modern Dance investigation of the body in space and time by danah bella
11:00 Partnering and improvisation by Stephen Clapp and Laura Schandelmeier

The 8:00 PM "Dance Sampler" concert features Furia Flamenca in “Alegrias,” with Spanish shawls intricately handled to the characteristic footwork of flamenco. Next Reflex Dance Collective brings Roxann Morgan’s “Trickle.” The metal tub the dancer occupies creates an intimate container for exploring the movements of bathing. Next Reflex Dance Collective co-founder Erika Schonemann presents her “Behind These Walls,” for six women who encounter, recognize and conquer physical and psychological obstacles. The nine members of Motion Mania Dance Theatre perform Bonnie Slawson’s abstract jazz work in 7/8 time. Laura Schandelmeier and Stephen Clapp perform “And then again…” which explores the here and now according to what came before and asks “What rituals and rites of passage create new beginnings?” Danah bella’s “…from a place of brokenness” is a study in the negotiation of space, power and vulnerability as a relationship develops between two bodies, two persons, two women. Rob Esposito’s “The Ruby and the Pearl” is a syncopated quintet to the music of Branford Marsalis. Jane Franklin Dance launches a segment from the premier collaborative work, “Found – in the gap between art and life.”
