JANE FRANKLIN DANCE brings "wit, vigor and flair" (The Washington Post) to the stage. Jane Franklin’s works draw attention to the movement, to the relationships between the performers, and to the connection between performer and audience.
. • Ring is a visually arresting work, set to the music of Vietnam’s Thang Long Water Puppet Troupe. Sculpted props designed by artist Brece Honeycutt are fashioned from bamboo and string. The natural materials reflect the movements of an individual who becomes a member of the on-stage community.
• In Hiding uses fabric panels, shadow and the human form to evoke passage and memory. Layered imagery by artist Becky Heavner illuminates hiding, barriers and a projection of the self. Music is by composer Gina Biver.
. Found is a collaboration with several area choreographers and musicians. The fleeting passage of birds, the rhythms of underlying language and the dynamics of a group in the search for connection highlight this work.
Thursday morning's Concert for Community marks the seventh year for this event which reaches Senior Adult groups and those who are unable to attend nighttime activities, as well as anyone who can get away for a mid-morning performance. From Jane Franklin's Joy of Movement workshops, sponsored by the Arlington Community Foundation and Washington Forrest Foundation, community participants from Arlington Senior Adult Centers will join the company dancers onstage.
