'BREAKING GROUND'
Our September 27 performances define the environment at 1250 9th St NW, an unlikely indoor skate park near the Convention Center. Dancers interact with video and react with dynamic movement sequences to define the skate boarding experience. Watching dance up close stimulates the nervous system. Be pulled into the steep plunges and unusual balance points of skate boarding in a whole new way. Video for Breaking Ground was created at Langdon Park. See excerpts below.

Breaking Ground
combines round wall skate boarders with company dancers for video and live performance. The round wall skate park at Langdon Park created by East Coast Round Wall Foundation, redefines the space it inhabits by transitioning a previously underused and neglected recreational area into a youth friendly, community developed skateboard park. The round bowl construction is a design of constant curves with inclines and hills of elevation that mimic the waves of the ocean. The steep plunges and the unusual balance points create a dynamic language that can be experienced by both mover and viewer.
This public site draws individuals invested in physical expression. The special environment is explored with dance, skate boarders and video, and with the community members who use it.
